Springer's History

Founded in 1859, Cimarron emerged as a vital trading post on the Santa Fe Trail, serving as a hub for travelers and traders heading to the burgeoning markets of Santa Fe. The town's significance grew with the arrival of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the late 19th century, further cementing its role in regional commerce. Cimarron is also known for its colorful past involving outlaws and lawmen, with figures such as the notorious gunslinger Clay Allison leaving their mark. Today, Cimarron preserves its heritage through historic sites and museums, offering a glimpse into its vibrant past while continuing to charm visitors with its old-West ambiance.

The population grows to around 1,000 residents as Springer becomes a hub for agriculture and livestock

1930s

Springer serves as a vital service center during the Great Depression, supporting surrounding rural communities

1940s - 1960s

The town continues to thrive with the establishment of schools, churches, and businesses, while agriculture remains a cornerstone of the economy.

1970

Population begins to slowly decrease as people move to bigger cities for more opportunity
