Springer's History
Founded in 1859, Cimarron emerged as a vital trading post on the Santa Fe Trail, serving as a hub for travelers and traders heading to the burgeoning markets of Santa Fe. The town's significance grew with the arrival of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the late 19th century, further cementing its role in regional commerce. Cimarron is also known for its colorful past involving outlaws and lawmen, with figures such as the notorious gunslinger Clay Allison leaving their mark.
