Eagle Nest's History

Established in the late 19th century, this town grew around the stunning Eagle Nest Lake, which was created during the 1930s as part of a New Deal project. Charles and Frank Springer founded the C.S. Ranch on the banks of Cimarron River

Charles and Frank applied to build the Eagle Nest Dam

Construction on the dam began and was completed 18,set to store the surplus of water from the Cimarron River

Illegal gambling drew in people traveling along the Santa Fe Trail through horse races
